Why won't my battery charge? (Charger light stays green in winter)

If the charger stays green and the battery is not gaining charge after a cold ride, low battery temperature is one possible cause, not the only diagnosis. A green light alone does not confirm a full battery, an active temperature cutoff, or a fault-free charger.

Check temperature first

For Hybrid CSC and StormX covered by the linked 2025 manuals, charge only when the ambient temperature is 0°C–40°C (32°F–104°F). Never try to charge a frozen battery or force charging in the cold.

Switch off the bike, bring the removable battery into an appropriate dry indoor area and allow it to warm naturally. Make sure the battery and charging connections are dry. The time needed depends on how cold the battery is; its outside surface feeling warm, or waiting a fixed one or two hours, does not establish that the cells are ready for charging. Do not use a heater, hand warmers or other direct heat to speed this up.

If it still will not charge

  1. Check for visible battery, charger, cable or port damage. Do not probe the port, force connectors or open the battery.
  2. Use only the correct FavoriteBikes-approved charger for that battery, and follow its connection instructions.
  3. Check the wall outlet and that the undamaged connectors are seated correctly.
  4. If the battery is naturally warmed, dry and within the charging conditions but still does not gain charge, stop repeated attempts and contact support.

Do not use or charge a battery that is swollen, leaking, unusually hot, damaged or producing an unusual smell. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, move away and contact emergency services. Do not bypass the BMS or force a battery reset.

For support, provide the bike/battery model, charger label, temperature, light behavior and whether the battery level actually increases.

For Hybrid CSC and StormX covered by the linked 2025 manuals: use the bike only between −20°C and 45°C (−4°F to 113°F), and charge only at ambient temperatures between 0°C and 40°C (32°F to 104°F). −20°C is already the lower operating limit, not a promise of unchanged performance or safe ice traction. See Hybrid CSC / StormX operating-temperature limits and cold-weather checks. Other bike or battery versions must follow their own supplied manuals.
