Running out of battery mid-ride can be surprising the first time it happens — but there's no need to worry. Here's what to expect and how to handle it.
You Can Still Ride
All FavoriteBikes e-bikes are fully functional as regular bicycles even when the battery is depleted. The motor disengages automatically, and you can continue pedaling under your own power to reach your destination. The bike will feel slightly heavier than a traditional bike due to the motor and battery weight, but it's completely rideable.
How to Maximize Your Remaining Range
If your battery is running low but you're not home yet, try these tips to stretch the remaining charge:
- Lower your assist level: Switch to a lower pedal-assist mode (e.g., Eco or Level 1). The lower the assist, the less battery you use per mile.
- Avoid using throttle: Throttle-only riding drains the battery much faster than pedal-assist. Use your legs more.
- Turn off unnecessary features: If your display has lights on in daylight, turn them off to conserve power.
- Ride on flat terrain when possible: Hills consume significantly more power. If you can choose a flatter route, do so.
- Maintain a steady pace: Frequent stops and acceleration spikes use more energy. Keep a consistent cadence.
Prevention: Plan Before You Ride
- Check your battery level before every ride — the FavoriteBikes app and display both show charge status.
- Know your range: Your bike's estimated range varies by assist level, terrain, rider weight, and temperature. Check your manual or the app for range estimates at each assist level.
- Charge overnight if you have a long ride planned the next day.
- Bring your charger on extended trips if you'll have access to outlets along the way.
