Riding in the Rain

Are FavoriteBikes E-Bikes Waterproof?

All FavoriteBikes e-bikes are built to the IPX4 water-resistance standard, which means they are protected against water splashes from any direction. You can confidently ride in light-to-moderate rain without damaging the electrical components.

What IPX4 Does NOT Cover

IPX4 does not mean your bike is waterproof or submersible. Specifically:

  • Do not use a pressure washer or high-pressure hose to clean your bike — this can force water into bearings, connectors, and the motor.
  • Do not submerge the bike or ride through deep standing water.
  • Avoid riding in heavy storms, flooding conditions, or lightning.

Rainy Ride Safety Tips

  • Slow down — Wet roads significantly reduce traction. Reduce your speed, especially on corners and painted road markings.
  • Brake earlier — Allow extra stopping distance. Both rim and disc brakes are less effective when wet.
  • Watch for hazards — Wet leaves, manhole covers, and painted lines become extremely slippery in the rain.
  • Use lights — Visibility drops in rain. Keep your front and rear lights on.
  • Avoid lightning and severe weather — No ride is worth the risk of a thunderstorm. Wait it out.

Post-Ride Care

After riding in the rain, a little maintenance goes a long way:

  • Wipe down the frame, motor, and display with a dry cloth to remove standing water.
  • Lubricate the chain — Water washes away chain lube. Dry the chain and reapply a wet-weather lubricant after every rainy ride.
  • Check connectors — Ensure the battery connector and display port are dry before the next ride.
  • Store indoors if possible — Keeping your bike dry between rides reduces corrosion and extends component life.
