Wide tires do not guarantee grip on snow or ice. Winter riding depends on the surface, visibility, tire compatibility, temperature and rider control. Do not ride where braking or traction is unreliable.
Keep tire pressure within the correct limits
Use the pressure guidance for your actual tire and rim combination, taking rider/load conditions into account. Do not inflate below a tire or rim minimum, or above their permitted maximum. There is no single low-pressure setting that is safe for every StormX tire or rider. If the markings or correct pressure are unclear, ask support or a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Do not improvise ice-traction modifications
Do not wrap zip ties, straps or makeshift chains around the tire and rim as a riding recommendation. Such modifications can interfere with rotating parts, the fork, fenders or brakes. A wider tire or an aftermarket studded tire must not be assumed compatible simply because its nominal wheel size matches. Confirm tire/rim compatibility and safe frame, fork and fender clearance with support or a qualified mechanic before any change.
Braking and winter inspection
Check both brakes before every ride. With the bike off and while standing beside it on stable level ground, squeeze each lever separately and gently try to push the bike; each brake should hold securely and release normally. Inspect brakes and tires more frequently in winter.
Do not ride if either brake is weak, sticking, leaking or otherwise abnormal. Snow and ice can increase stopping distance even when the brakes work. Keep speed conservative only where conditions permit safe riding; stopping and choosing another way to travel is appropriate when they do not.
For Hybrid CSC and StormX covered by the linked 2025 manuals: use the bike only between −20°C and 45°C (−4°F to 113°F), and charge only at ambient temperatures between 0°C and 40°C (32°F to 104°F). −20°C is already the lower operating limit, not a promise of unchanged performance or safe ice traction. See Hybrid CSC / StormX operating-temperature limits and cold-weather checks. Other bike or battery versions must follow their own supplied manuals.
Cold also affects battery power and range. Plan extra reserve; see Why is my range shorter in cold weather? and Pre-ride and after-storage safety checks.
