Video Guides
Use this recovery process only if a previous firmware update was interrupted, the display failed during an update, or the display cannot enter the normal app connection state.
If your bike and the FavoriteBikes app can connect normally, use the normal in-app firmware update process instead. In the normal update process, the app can read the display/controller version and match the correct firmware automatically.

When to Use This Recovery Update
This article is for recovery firmware updates started from the FavoriteBikes app home/login screen. Use it only when:
- A previous firmware update was interrupted.
- The display failed during an update.
- The display cannot start normally or cannot enter the normal app connection state.
- FavoriteBikes Support asks you to perform a recovery firmware update.
Do not use this recovery process for routine updates if your bike and app are working normally.
Before You Start
- Make sure the bike battery has enough charge.
- Keep your phone close to the bike during the update.
- Keep the FavoriteBikes app open. Do not move it to the background.
- Do not power off the bike or remove the battery while the update is writing.
- If the process repeatedly fails, stop and contact FavoriteBikes Support.
Recovery Update Steps
- Turn on the display.
- Double-press the M button to enter the display menu.
- Go to System Information, find your display ID, and remember or write it down.
- Confirm that the FavoriteBikes app can pair with the bike if possible.
- In the app menu, tap Disconnect the device. The app will return to the login/home screen.
- On the display, double-press M again to enter the menu.
- Select Support and apps, then select Firmware update.
- The bike will enter a 30-second countdown. After the countdown, the display will fully power off.
- After the display turns off, press and hold +, −, and the Power button together for at least 3 seconds.
- The display should show a screen with a gray Bluetooth icon. This means the display is ready for recovery update mode.
- On the app login/home screen, tap the settings gear in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Let’s begin, then tap Download and install.
- If the app asks you to choose between two firmware versions, select the version that matches your location/region.
- Wait for the firmware package to download.
- Start the update when prompted. On iOS, tap OK if a confirmation pop-up appears. On Android, the update may start automatically after the download prompt appears.
- Wait for the update to complete. iOS may take about 8–9 minutes. Android may take about 6–7 minutes.
- When the update finishes, the display may show rapidly changing colors in the writing-data text, then power off automatically.
- After the display powers off, press and hold the power button for about 7 seconds to restart the display.
Troubleshooting
The app shows “Bluetooth Off”
Open your phone settings, go to the app permissions for the FavoriteBikes app, and make sure Bluetooth permission is enabled. On many phones, this is a switch next to the Bluetooth permission line.
The bike powered off during the update
Make sure the bike battery has enough charge. Fully close the app, restart the recovery update process, and try again. If the update repeatedly fails, contact FavoriteBikes Support.
The app was interrupted or moved to the background
Fully close the app. Then fully power-cycle the bike by reinstalling the battery or, if instructed by support, disconnecting and reconnecting the 8-pin cable at the bottom of the display. After that, start the recovery update process again.
The app keeps spinning or does not continue after downloading
Close the app, remove and reinstall the bike battery, and repeat the recovery update process. If it still does not work after multiple attempts, contact FavoriteBikes Support.
The display turns off while waiting for the app
If the display stays in recovery mode for too long without receiving a response from the app, it may shut down automatically. Restart the recovery mode by holding +, −, and Power again for at least 3 seconds.
When to Contact Support
Please contact FavoriteBikes Support if:
- The update fails repeatedly.
- The display cannot enter recovery mode.
- The app cannot detect the display during recovery.
- You are unsure which firmware version/region to select.
